Which Cat Litter Is Best For You?
Although cats have been kept domestically as pets since the early Egyptians, it wasn’t until the late 1940s that commercial cat litter came to be. Prior to that people either let their cats outside to do their business or used cardboard box full with stand in the home.
This was less than ideal and, in fact, the first commercial cat litter was “discovered” mostly by accident when a cat owner sought out the help of her neighbor after the sand she used for her cat litter box was frozen solid. This neighbor made a product that consisted of clay and gave her little clay pellets to use as litter. The pellets proved to be so absorbent this was an immediate success and soon everyone wanted to use these little clay pellets which soon became sold under the name “Kitty Litter”.
Since than there have been hundreds of brands and types of litter manufactured and sold on the market. But how do you know which type is right for you?
The answer that might have a little bit to do with your cat is some cats can do not like different types of litter. Needless to say, if your cat isn’t comfortable going in the box you can probably find someplace else to go and you may not like it. Although most cats take to most types of litter you may find you need to experiment a little bit if you cat doesn’t seem to like his litter box.
Here are some of the materials you might consider for your cat litter:
Clay
The original Kitty Litter was made from clay and this brand is still available today and very popular. It is made from sodium bentonite which is a type of clay that is very absorbent. When the cat would use the litter box, his waist with clump up making it easy to change out. Most cat litter has claimed today in fact this is what makes the clumpable cat litters so easy to use.
Clay litters, however to have some problems they can clump onto your cat’s paws and fur and can be destiny. Some of the newer brands claim to be less dusty but these contain silicon particles which are a known carcinogen. You might want to think twice before buying any cat litter with this in it, but a lot of them do use it so you have to read labels carefully.
Silica Gel
This is a fairly new material for cat litter and is made from silica dioxide sand, oxygen and water. It is said to absorb up to 40 times its weight and does not track so you won’t have to worry about it getting all over your house. Manufactures claim this is non toxic, and although it can be expensive and might save you in the long run since holds the moisture inside the silica gel balls, the same cat litter can be used for months without changing up the box so you save on material and maintenance.
Newspaper
You can buy some litters made from recycled newspapers that are crunched up into pellet form. This cat litter is dust free, non-tracking and is biodegradable so you can flush it.
Wheat And Plant Based
These are the most natural kinds of litters and while you might think that these don’t work as good as the other letters I used a wheat based cat litter and I can assure you it works just as good in his last dusty and smelly as the clay litters. They can be a little bit more expensive car very good at controlling odor and can be flushed. My cat seems to like it too!
Other natural types of cat litter include those made from corn kernel, ground corncobs, beet pulp, and wheat grass.
Sawdust
Some cat litters used pine or cedar sawdust which is dried and compressed into pellets. These naturally neutralize the odor from the ammonia in the past year and enter pretty absorbant as well. These plants have natural bacterial and insecticidal properties and the natural smell the plant. If you have allergies or asthma, you may want to be careful with these as I know personally the pine smell can set off my asthma.

What is the Best Food for Nursing and Weaning Kittens and Puppies?
Today, it cannot be taken for granted that mothers milk is best for nursing kittens and puppies. Unless your kitten or puppy’s mother was healthy before, during and after pregnancy, it is very likely the litter will suffer from personality disorders, that they will be susceptible to a wide range of immune diseases, genetic predispositions, and that their life expectancies will be shortened.
Once people bond with their pets, most will spend whatever it takes in an effort to get them better, or prolong their lives. The good news is that by taking an active role, most problems can be prevented!
This article addresses:
1.What to do if you fall in love with a pet store or rescue kitten or puppy
2.The role of nursing and weaning to their immune system
3.Best food for kittens and puppies
Where you buy your puppy or kitten matters
Pet Stores
Buyer beware! Pet Store kittens and puppies have a high risk, throughout their lives, of developing illness. Why?
Since the mid-1980s, families and empty nesters have been buying puppies and kittens at a pace that has turned breeding facilities (often called puppy mills) into big business.
Even though you may spend a lot of money for your new pet, price is no guarantee of health! Commercially bred mothers are bred too frequently. Their bodies don’t get a chance to fully recover before they are bred again, and again. Complicating matters, puppy mills tend to cut corners when it comes to food costs. Nutritious food is always important for good health, but especially important to a breeding mother. Commercial pet foods, despite label claims, are sorely lacking in nutritional value.
Stress: Stress is documented to compromise strong immune systems: Imagine the effect on weakened ones. The living conditions in puppy mill are highly stressful to mothers. This stress can be passed on to puppies and kittens affecting their disposition, personality and behavior.
Premature weaning stresses the developing immune system. Moreover, the time they spend away from their mother while in the puppy mill, subjected to the same stressful living conditions, is highly stressful.
But that is not the end of their stress. Shipping to pet stores puts them through a great deal of stress. If they get acclimated there at all, they experience travel and transition stress all over again coming to your home. No wonder they suffer with diarrhea, and eating disorders.
Rescue Facilities
Most of the animals sold in rescue facilities were abandoned; the kittens and puppies are largely from feral mothers. Feral mothers diets consist of weak and diseased rodents, putrefied carcasses, or discarded leftovers from trashcans. These leftovers likely harbor pathogenic bacteria, causing the mothers to be sick and diseased.
Feral females are impregnated by feral males who are likely to be equally as sick. Another problem confronting the feral female is that they are often impregnated before they are physically ready, and often become pregnant again, while puppies or kittens are still on the teat!
The health consequences to the offspring of feral mothers and premature weaning may be immediate, or they may not develop until the animal is older.
Today, pet owners are paying a very high price. Although this article seems to paint a dismal picture, by introducing an all-natural formula as soon as you bring your kitten or puppy home, you can minimize their health risk, and, you can actually take part in reversing the poor health predisposition to their offspring!
Stress: The stress of living a feral life takes a toll on the puppies and kittens immune systems. If their mother was constantly on the run to avoid harm or capture, the litter is likely to be skittish, reclusive, and defensive. Each generational decline adds to the genetic predisposition to poor health, bad behavior, and personality disorders.
The Importance of Mothers Milk
Milk from a healthy mother provides the building blocks necessary for puppies and kittens to develop strong immune defense systems. Unfortunately, most female cats and dogs that are bred have not gotten neither the diet nor the supplements necessary to fortify and nourish their bodies, before, during, and after pregnancy.
Kittens and puppies nursed on low quality mothers milk, or weaned prematurely, are more likely to have undeveloped immune systems. This need not be a problem if proper care is given during their transition from teat, to solid foods.
The Best Food for Puppy or Kittens
The best food for kittens or puppies is a diet that is most natural to their ancestry.
You can domesticate an animals behavior, but the domestication of their diet to commercial pet foods has been the primary cause for their decline in health, behavioral issues, personality disorders, and predisposition to disease. It is a fact that over 80% of all chronic disease is caused by an unhealthy digestive system.
Kittens and puppies given an all-natural nursing and wean support formula, as a supplement while nursing, and prior to being weaned to solid foods, are not only likelier to be healthier and live longer, they are smarter, happier and better adjusted.
Where to Find the Best Cat Grooming Supplies?
You might have seen how your cat can easily clean herself up by licking its paws and combing her fur with it. Looks cute, isn’t it? Now, she’s going to slide her sides on your walls and carpets and all and by the time she finishes with her ritual, she’s as clean as your washing machine. You could think that she doesn’t need help to clean or groom herself up now, do you? Well, you are right but if you ask other tabby owners, they would say otherwise and they might even recommend you on where to find some cat grooming supplies to let you clean up your cat and give it a good stroke of a brush or something like that.
Yes, cats can manage to clean her up but don’t you know while you’re staring at her and she’s doing some licking with her paws, she is thinking of something like: “Purr…oh, how I wish my master here will pick me up and help me with my grooming. I really need some stroking right now and some tender and loving care… Purrrrr…..”
So, you see, what your cat actually needs is a good bonding relationship with you. Haven’t you ever thought that when you pick her up and you do a little grooming here and there for her will eventually make her feel more special, more being cared about and more loved and in doing so, she will return the favor?
You know how cats are right? Very thoughtful, very romantic and very loving and what you give to them, they will give it back to you in hundred folds. Sure, dogs are man’s best friend so does your cat and other animals as well.
So, you’re buying the idea of grooming your cat? If you do, this little idea can help you get some ideas. You need to put your little tabby on a table or bench then do a little brushing of its fur. It would be nicer to feel if you can put her on your lap and do the brushing from there. And oh, speaking of which, you need to find a good brush for your cat.
Anyway, when you brush her, use some short and gentle strokes to get rid of knots and don’t pull or yank or else, she’s going to claw you or will make her distressed. You can try to brush under her neck and stomach. Cats love that.
Now, to get rid of flea, you can use a flea comb and brush again from head to tail. You might also want to sort of tie her hair a little bit with nice little ribbons but you have to know that you can’t use any kind of ribbons if you don’t want your cat to get angry at your when it begins to hurt. There was one cat owner who uses rubber bands to tie some hair on top of her cat’s head. It hurt so much that her cat even tried to claw her right in the eyes and she can’t blame the cat for it.
So, anyway, If you don’t have any idea what kind of brush or any cat grooming supplies to use, you can go to your local pet shop for more information and buy from there but the only problem is, do you have the time to go out and do a little shopping outside? Why not try to learn how to do a little shopping line for cat grooming supplies instead? Now, that’s really pretty interesting, don’t you think?

What is the Best Kitten Care for Lasting Health?
Most people look to their vet for the best advice on kitten care, or any animal care come to that.
But can you be sure that they are giving you good, sound, unbiased advice based on solid research?
The early months of 2009 have seen media reports about Harvard (US) medical students protesting that their professors have strong and lucrative ties to pharmaceutical companies. This compromises the professors integrity and can’t exclude them from biased teaching.
If the most famous and most prestigious medical school in the largest democracy of the world has this problem, image what it must be like in less well known medical and veterinary schools.
Add into the mix the lucrative commercial pet food industry and you may want to consider if your vet, who may be the nicest person in the world, has had the best training. Or perhaps s/he has received very biased and limited training: limited to ensuring the burgeoning profits of already highly profitable companies.
You can’t blame the universities who are always short of money. You can’t blame the governments as they are always under pressure to deliver cheaper courses. It’s probably best not to blame anyone.
But it does pay you to know what is going on.
Perhaps now you can appreciate why so many vets strongly promote commercial pet food. Their reception rooms are packed solid from floor to ceiling.
But stop and ask yourself if this is really the way to optimum kitten care. Or is it more for optimum profits in the commercial pet food industry? Or optimum vet care, with all the ensuing unhealthy cats?
I want to introduce you to Dr Francis Pottenger. He was a research scientist and conducted nutritional tests on cats between 1932 and 1942. He discovered that cats who were fed only a cooked diet, even though ‘perfected balanced’, showed a marked reduction in their immune responses. This lowered immune response was passed on to the next generation.
Further feeding of cooked food, further lowered the immune response. And so the cycle went on.
By the third generation illnesses such as heart lesions, hepatitis, feline urological syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, leukaemia, tumours, arthritis and a host of other immune deficient maladies were occurring.
Dr Pottenger went on to discover that the immune response could be improved simply by giving them a raw food diet. But it took another three generations for the immune system to be back up to a really optimum level of efficiency, that you commonly find in wild cats.
If you are still confused, and I can’t blame you if you are, here’s a suggestion to use when you search for the best kitten care.
Fads come and go. What ‘science’ discovers this year, is out moded next year as fashion changes, as inaccuracies are discovered, as more information comes to light.
On the other hand, nature has perfected herself over millennia. Cats have evolved on their raw diet and thrived. Man and his puny ideas, have not, and will never, alter a cats digestive system. How can it when you look at all the time nature has had to fine tune it?
Translating good kitten care feeding into practice is not without its problems. There are some do’s and don’ts that you must adhere to. Such as:
what meat can be overfed with disastrous results what ingredient, often left out, MUST be present is a healthy kitten’s diet what additional supplements should you add to the diet
Once you get your head around the concept and get into the routine, natural kitten care comes easily. It will also deter most cats from hunting as an adult. Hunting domestic cats are normally trying to redress the lack of nutrients in their diet, rather than doing what comes naturally.
Feed your cat as nature intended, and the rewards will be endless.
